English Learning 1-5 (EL 1-5)

Our EL program now begins to incorporate a curriculum with higher-level Lexile bands.

Our primary focus is to develop reading and writing skills through fun and collaborative STEAM-based exercises, in addition to speaking and listening skills as complementary skills. Through this course, students will become active readers and listeners, build their confidence, and begin writing and communicating more effectively.

English Learning 1 (EL1)

Our EL 1 program goals are to master basic grammar rule to construct sentences with purpose (e.g., subject/ verb agreements, adjectives/ adverbs). Build on comprehension strategies (e.g., using context & knowledge). We also hone in on answering and speaking beyond simple sentences and to begin thinking about “why” and “how” questions.

English Learning 2 (EL2)

Our program goals are to expand on earlier comprehension strategies and develop tools to understand, answer, and speak to questions; determine the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases. Mastering the ability to write in complete sentences to answer various prompts is a key component to this level.

English Learning 3 (EL3)

Our EL 3 program goals are to read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, at the 3-4th grade Lexile band independently and proficiently. In addition, when writing and speaking, the goal is to choose words and phrases for effect.

English Learning 4 (EL4)

The goal of our EL4 program is to further improve students’ reading comprehension by developing their analytical and critical thinking skills. They will also learn to effectively structure and provide supporting evidences for their writing and presentation.
